What is a tractor?

Use of a tractor

A tractor is a farm vehicle. Agricultural implements can be mounted on and towed behind the tractor in order to provide a source of power when the tractor is mechanized. There are various uses of a tractor depending on the agricultural implement:

  • It can be used for pushing or pulling agricultural machinery or trailers. This makes the job easier for farmers because manually pushing and pulling machinery can take a lot of time and effort to do and finish.
  • The tractor can also be used for ploughing for initial cultivation of soil in preparation for sowing seed or planting.
  • A disc harrow can also be implemented on a tractor for tilling purposes to till the soil where crops are to be planted. It is also used to cut up unwanted weeds or crop remainders.
  • Planting can also be done using a tractor by using the correct farm implement which is called the planter. Different planters are used for different types of crops. These planters are readily available on the market.
